The Red Sea International Film Festival 2024 has kicked off with global cinematic brilliance, but Pakistan’s absence this year is deeply noticeable. In 2023, Pakistan proudly showcased “In Flames,” a film that won the Mannheim-Heidelberg Prize, while stars like Humayun Saeed, Mahira Khan, and Ahad Raza Mir added glamour to the event.
This year, no Pakistani films or actors are part of the festival, highlighting a sharp decline in the country’s international representation. The stark contrast raises concerns about the challenges facing the Pakistani film industry and its ability to compete on global platforms.
The void at Red Sea 2024 underscores the urgent need for Pakistan’s film industry to refocus on quality production and global collaborations to regain its position in world cinema.
