Pakistani documentary “Moklani – The Last Mohanas” has made history by winning at the Jackson Wild Media Awards 2025, known as the world’s most prestigious nature and environmental film competition. Directed and produced by Jawad Sharif, the film is the first-ever from Pakistan to receive this honour.
Moklani – The Last Mohanas portrays the fading life of the Mohana tribe—the boat-dwelling fishing community of Manchar Lake in Sindh. The film highlights the community’s struggle for survival amid climate change, pollution, and the drying of their ancestral waters.

Selected as the Winner in the Global Voices Category, the film was chosen from over 500 international submissions and 1,000 hours of screenings. The award recognizes stories that amplify underrepresented voices from around the world.

Through stunning cinematography and a deeply emotional narrative, Moklani captures the beauty, resilience, and tragedy of a community facing extinction. The win is being hailed as a landmark for Pakistani documentary cinema, establishing Jawad Sharif as a leading voice in environmental and cultural storytelling.

Moklani – The Last Mohanas not only brings international recognition to Pakistan’s film industry but also serves as a cinematic reminder of the urgent need to protect both nature and indigenous heritage
