Pakistani filmmakers have stepped into the arena to deliver a strong response to Indian propaganda through the upcoming film Mera Lyari, which is set for release next month. The film aims to counter the negative portrayal of Lyari presented in the Indian film Dharandhar and highlight the area’s true identity.
Mera Lyari is written and directed by renowned Pakistani filmmaker Abu Aleeha, who is known for addressing social and political realities through bold and meaningful storytelling. The film is produced by Ayesha Omar, with the creative team aiming to present an authentic, humane and dignified portrayal of Lyari to audiences in Pakistan and around the world.
Speaking on the occasion, it was stated that Mera Lyari will showcase the real face of Lyari, offering audiences a glimpse of peace, prosperity and pride. The film seeks to portray Lyari as a place of hope, resilience and dignity rather than violence and fear.
The Indian propaganda film Dharandhar was recently released in India and features well-known actors including Ranveer Singh, Akshay Khanna, R. Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sanjay Dutt in leading roles. The film has been criticized in Pakistan for presenting a distorted and negative image of Pakistan, particularly targeting Lyari.
Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that Mera Lyari will be released internationally. He stated that India suffered a humiliating defeat in the war against Pakistan and has failed to turn that defeat into a victory through films. He emphasized that cinema cannot rewrite history or change facts.

Sharjeel Memon further said that the Indian film Dharandhar is based on negative propaganda against Pakistan and especially against Lyari. “Lyari is not a symbol of violence,” he noted, “but a symbol of culture, peace, capability and courage.
