The curtains are drawn on the story of a gentleman, Munna (Humayun Saeed). It is a sad ending but it gives our law enforcement agencies a harsh reality check. It is a tale of lawlessness, the use of power and goons in politics, the helplessness of a common person against extortionists, the crime scene of Karachi, emotional turmoil, the heavy price of love, and the uncertainty of life even if you are powerful.

Script and story ending

The last episode is slow-paced with lengthy scenes but sums up very well with all the characters’ stories coming to an end. The last encounter of the hero and the villain as well as the hero with his heroine are scripted brilliantly. Khalil Ul Rehman Qamar has shown his hero dying in the end in many of his stories making them sad and the ending of Gentleman is the same. The killing of Munna is a tight slap on the face of our law system when the inspector says: we don’t act according to the law, but according to the will of rulers.

The last episode ends in suspense when Zarnab (Yumna Zaidi) gets a phone call from Munna a year after his death which is not understandable for many of us. There may be another continuation story on the cards.

Performance

Yumna Zaidi has done great performances in previous dramas like Inkaar, Dar Si Jati Hay Sila, Bin Tere, and others but in the character of Zarnab in Gentleman, she is at the peak of her acting career. Zarnab will stay in our memories for a long time. Her last meeting with Munna during a police encounter and surrender… the expressions on their faces are memorable when they both say nothing but say everything to each other.

Zahid Ahmed, Sohai Ali, Ahmed Ali Butt, and Adnan Siddiqui have also performed great. Humayun has proved that he is still a hero material.

Direction

From drone shots to the tempo, the use of OST in crucial situations, and the unfolding of the story in a subtle manner, lighting, and videography – Haissam Hussain has done a great job as director in the last episode. The background OST in the last scene between Zarnab and Munna is pretty enough to express their inner sentiments.

The mix of romance, action, and crime thriller requires skill and intelligence and he has proved his mettle.

The get-up and appearance are according to the characters. Haissam Hussain and his team have portrayed the characters as they should be.

Production wise we can say it is another feather in the cap of Six Sigma and Next Level Entertainment. They have given us many hit serials – entertaining, message-oriented, showing us a picture of our societal and political norms. A Gentleman is one such example.
