Kabli Pulao Review: Written by Zafar Mairaj and directed by Kashif Nisar, Kabli Pulao has entered into its last phase. After the return of Barbeena’s lost and thought-to-be-dead husband, a new quagmire has caught her up. Such a turn that most of the viewers have not thought would occur, has trapped her in such a way that there is no escape in sight.

Seen-this-before situation:

We have seen this situation in Indian soaps where a thought-to-be-dead character suddenly comes to life from nowhere and appears to bring the end of the world to the other characters. However, in Kabli Pulao this situation is dealt with in a very natural way. This is an extremely sharp and unexpected turn of events one can’t imagine and believe. The same feeling of unexpectedness is the real beauty of a story that Zafar Mairaj and Kashif Nisar portrayed stunningly with the technical and creative aspects in mind.

Production and direction:

Keeping the suspense of the future events of Kabli Pulao, let’s take a look at the production and direction of this very different story that our TV screen usually doesn’t present. Kashif Nisar is a name in our TV industry who has many hit and mega drama serials against his name, a recent one is Bakhtawar. So does the writer Zafar Mairaj who previously wrote a story ‘Sangat’ also directed by Kashif Nisar. This writer-director duo has given us a great and worth-watching tale this time with the name of Kabli Pulao.

Treatment:

The drama serial is shot at original indoor locations mostly in Lahore and Peshawar. Original locations give us a natural feeling of the story setup and environment. The traditions and values of Pashtun culture are also portrayed aptly by how a young widow has to live a colorless life after the death of her husband. Barbeena’s character is a great example of how fragile, unstable, and uncertain life can be. How the turn of events can dramatically change of course of life, Kabli Pulao shows us in a befitting manner.

Acting standards:

All the actors fit into their roles like a glove with a special mention for Barbeena (Sabeena Farooq) who adopted the Pashtun dialect and accent nearly perfectly.

The drama is heading toward the end and we’ll surely be missing it. What will be the fate of Haji Mushtaq, Barbeena, and her lost husband, is yet to be seen, however, we can’t help but praise the entire team for bringing to life such a beautiful story. Let’s wait for the last episode coming our way the next week.
